Start the conversationEverything our retreats are. No one else in the room.
Our public retreats are already small — six guests, sometimes four. A private retreat takes that further and removes the room entirely.
A high-end private villa, held for your group alone. The same team. The same nine editions of refinement behind the format. Except the schedule bends to your group, the curriculum is written for your level, and the only people there are the ones you brought.
For some people that is a preference. For others it is the only way they would ever do this at all.

A private retreat is for you if...
- You want the experience of a retreat without sharing the space with anyone outside your group.
- You are a couple who would rather learn in private than in a room with other students.
- You have a group — partners, close friends, a play community — and want the week built around you.
- Our public dates do not work, and you would rather choose your own than wait a year.
- You want a curriculum aimed precisely at your level, not averaged across a mixed room.
- You want to mark something — an anniversary, a birthday, a threshold — with several days that you will still be talking about in ten years.
Three shapes it often takes
These are not packages to choose between — they are examples of what people have asked for. Yours will be written from scratch.

The private immersion
For a couple with little or no experience. Five days from the very first knot to confident floor work, with time to rest and swim between sessions. This is the beginners retreat, taught to two people.

The suspension intensive
For experienced riggers who want to move into suspension without waiting for the next public retreat. Harnesses, partials, full suspension, transitions — with a teacher on your rope the whole time.

The occasion
For a group marking something. Rope at the centre, and everything around it — cacao and sound, temazcal, a photography session, a final jam — arranged as a few days you plan the rest of the year around.
What is included

Not included
Flights, travel insurance, and ropes. Please bring your own rope if you have it — if you cannot travel with it, tell us in advance and we will have some ready.

Taught by the people who built the format
A private retreat is led by Anastasia Suazo — over ten years of shibari, students in sixteen countries, and every edition of these retreats since 2023.
Depending on what your week needs, she is joined by the same teaching team, models, and practitioners who run the public retreats — including a photographer who knows how to shoot rope, and facilitators for the ceremony and movement work.
Nobody is subcontracted in for the occasion. It is the team, doing what they already do, for your group only.

Private retreat
From $20,000USD
Five days and four nights, up to six guests, everything on this page included. The price is for the retreat, not per person — a couple and a group of six book the same thing.
What moves the number
- How many guests are coming, and how many are tying solo
- How many days you want — five is the standard shape, longer is possible
- Whether you use our villa in Mexico or bring us to a location of your own
- How much of the ceremony, movement, and excursion programme you want included
- Whether you want a dedicated photography or film session as part of the week
You receive a fixed, written price in your proposal before anything is committed. A deposit holds your villa and the team for your dates; the balance schedule is agreed in the same document.
How it works
- 1
Tell us what you have in mind
Email us with roughly who is coming, where you are with rope, and the window of time you are considering. Nothing needs to be decided yet.
- 2
We talk it through
A call to understand your group, your level, and what you actually want from the days. This is also where we tell you honestly if a public retreat would serve you better.
- 3
You receive a proposal
A written plan: the shape of each day, the curriculum, who teaches, what is included, and a fixed price. You will not be guessing at the number.
- 4
Your dates are held
A deposit secures your villa and the team for your window, with the balance schedule agreed in the proposal. From that moment the online course is open to you, so you can prepare.
- 5
We build the week
Menus, transfers, ceremony, models, the curriculum itself. You arrive and it is done.
FAQ
How much does a private shibari retreat cost?+
Private retreats start from $20,000 USD. That covers five days and four nights of exclusive use of a high-end private villa for up to six guests, the full teaching team, all meals, the curriculum, ceremony and movement programme, transfers, and photos from your practice. The final figure depends on group size, length, and location, and is fixed in writing before you commit.
How many people can come?+
Up to six guests, which is the same cap as our public suspension retreat — it is the number at which everyone still gets real, individual attention. Larger groups are possible at a different location and price; ask us.
Do we need any experience?+
None. A private retreat is built around whatever level you arrive at. A group of complete beginners and a group of riggers working toward suspension will get two entirely different weeks, and both are ordinary requests.
Can we come as a single couple?+
Yes, and it is one of the most common private bookings. The price is not per person — you are reserving the property, the team, and the days, so a couple books the same retreat a group of six would.
When can we come?+
Your dates, subject to availability of a suitable villa and of the team. October is when our public retreats run, so that month tends to be spoken for. Most private retreats are arranged three to six months ahead.
Can you run it somewhere other than Mexico?+
Yes. We can bring the team to a location you arrange, anywhere the rigging can be made safe. Travel and venue costs are additional and priced in the proposal.
How private is private?+
Completely. No other students, no shared spaces, no one else in the villa. What happens during the week stays inside your group, and nothing is photographed or published without your explicit permission.
How is this different from private classes?+
Private classes are hours; this is days. A class teaches you a technique. A retreat gives you the setting, the rest, the food, the ceremony, and the uninterrupted time that lets the technique settle into something you actually carry home.

and roughly when.
That is enough to begin. You do not need fixed dates, a finished guest list, or any idea of what the days should contain — that is the part we are good at. Write to us and we will take it from there.
